About Us
Ellen was born in Shanghai, China and she started learning piano since 4 years old. Ellen has been deeply influenced by classical music since her childhood, and has gradually developed an interest in various domains such as contemporary music, composition and transcription. She was previously a student of Professor Xinyi Shen from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2005, Ellen received the certificates of both Grade 10 piano practical exam and senior music theory exam sponsored by Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 13. After moving to Australia in 2009, Ellen achieved her AMEB Certificate of Performance piano practical exam with honours in 2010. Ellen completed her double degree in music and education at University of New South Wales in 2015 and she officially became an accredited music teacher in New South Wales.
During the time in Australia, Ellen was taking advanced lessons with her piano teacher Ms. Elizabeth Green, who is an examiner of AMEB and she has been inspiring Ellen to appreciate music in a different perspective. Ellen served for the Chinese Musician Society, the largest Chinese university students music society in New South Wales, as head of education division. She successfully attracted more than hundred students to enroll in instrumental tuition program with approximately 50 students selecting piano tuition program. After graduation, Ellen taught music and Chinese in a few primary and secondary schools. Meanwhile, she continued to teach piano for children, adults and AMEB exam candidates.
Ellen is able to use both Chinese Mandarin and English to teach piano and music after receiving formal training at UNSW and she would customise lesson plans for her students regarding their learning abilities and expectations. Ellen treats her students with patience and passion, and she is able to constantly communicate and reflect with the students and parents, providing them with the best learning program that suits them. Ellen also has many years of piano teaching experience so she clearly knows how to engage beginners in learning piano with passion and interests. Ellen used to teach in one of the largest and well-known music schools in southern suburb for the past 4 years, helping students organise piano concert and prepare for AMEB exam and school events. In addition, the AMEB exam passing rate among her students is 100% with quite a few achieved A+ and A.
